The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games was released on March 21, 2012 and was directed by Gary Ross. This movie is categorized as a  action drama sci-fi thriller.

This film, which was originally a book series is about a not too distant future where North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and twelve districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The twenty-four participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally  with all citizens required to watch. When 16 year old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining districts female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.

For a while I was reluctant to watch this movie, mainly because Hollywood has a habit of butchering movies that were once books. But due to a reader's request I decided to give it a go. I wasn't disappointed.

This movie turned out rather good. Sure there were parts left out, but that is going to happen. There is no possible way to fit every detail of a book into one movie. And even if they did manage it the acting would probably suck, or the movie would be too long, or there would be something else that the viewers would complain about.

For not every one is going to be happy about a recreation of their favorite books. Not every one has the same imagination.

I give props to the director Garry Ross for not completely butchering this film. He actually did really well.

The acting was believable, for the situation. And the story was exceptional.

After watching this I actually want to go buy the books so I can see what the original story was.

I will be adding this movie to my will be watched again list.
